7 weeks

Reese is 7 weeks and two days today. It has been good week, a little rainy so we are stuck in the house more, I miss the fresh air. We are still trying to take naps in her nursery so she can get used to it and she did sleep up there one night but that was short lived. The cloth diapers are making much more laundry but I am going to stick with it!
I have started taking pilates classes and it has been really nice to get out of the house in the evening and to work out. I was taking pilates last spring and loved it then switched to yoga when I was pregnant, so it was been really nice. Also, I am starting to feel like I have abs again. I couldn't even flex my abs the first 2 weeks they were so stretched out. I feel like I need to tell everyone in the class, I just had a baby, that's why I can't engage my core or bend like you. Then I tell myself, all in good time.
This weekend I am hosting a bridal shower at the house for Brandy and Erin is coming over tomorrow to help me get the house ready and prep the food. I am really excited, we are going to eat well and have a great time!!
Also, my neighbor Sarah is pregnant and came over Wednesday to hang out. Little Sydney will be here any day and if Sarah's water breaks during the week, I am driving her to the hospital, so exciting. I can't wait for Reese's playmate to arrive!

Cloth diapers

We switched to cloth diapers on Friday. Good bye disposable, hello laundry. The good news is the cloth diapers are clearing up her diaper rash. I am beyond thrilled! Her butt is no longer red and blistered but pink and healing. I can't wait until it is all gone, I am hoping by the end of the week. It makes the extra laundry worth it, plus the colors are cute.
I got some from Craigslist as well. I bought 35 (yikes) from a woman on craigslist who owned a cloth diaper company and sold them online, she closed it and had to get rid of all her inventory. So, the ones I bought are for use during the day, the are thinner and only have one absorbent layer. I'm hoping the added numbers help cut down on laundry. The new ones aren't quite as bulky and make her outfits look a little cuter. The bulky pocket diapers for night are so thick they could stop a bullet.
Will keep you posted.

6 weeks

Hi all--
Reese turned 6 weeks old yesterday! She is much more alert during the day, she is smiling and making funny faces as well. She still eats every 2-3 hours during the day which is tiring but she is gaining lots of weight. She is 12.5lbs, yikes and she fits into 3 month clothes already. We tried putting her upstairs in her nursery at night and it didn't really fly. It took a while for her to fall asleep and going up the stairs 3 times in the night to feed her got to be a little much so we will try again at 8 weeks or when she starts sleeping for longer stretches. I am putting her down for naps up there and changing her diapers and feeding her so she gets used to it.
The biggest hurdle now is the diaper rash that won't go away. Her butt is so red and blistered. We have tried treating her for yeast, bacteria, breakdown. We have another doctors appointment tomorrow, this will be #3, I feel like I have to qualify that b/c if someone saw her butt and didn't know, I'm pretty sure CPS would be knocking on our door. I feel like she is going to get married with this diaper rash. Carl is actually taking her to the appointment because I have had my fill of doctor's offices and appointments. Not sure of they need to culture her butt or not but this is going on 5 weeks! Think good thoughts for us and her tush.

One month

Reese turned one month old on Tuesday. It has been such an amazing month, some good, some bad. I do think I am getting to understand her needs and wants more. Her sleep schedule could use a little improvement but some nights are good and others not so good. Every once in a while she will go 4 hours between feedings at night and that is huge. It makes such a difference when you get that extra hour of sleep.
I am so excited for the weekend, I love having Carl home with us. We might take her to a St. Patty's day block party but not sure if we can use our carrier yet. She is holding her head up much better but it isn't 100% of the time. Enjoy your weekend.

crutches and a 3 week old?!?!

Yes, that's right! I fell Wednesday night down some stairs and sprained my ankle and am now on crutches. I was going down a neighbor's stairs on her porch with the stroller in my hands and holding a salad bowl (we went over for dinner) and missed a step and hit the pavement. Thank goodness, Reese wasn't in the stroller! I was instantly in so much pain and couldn't move my foot or bear any weight. My thoughts were racing--"oh my gosh, I just broke my foot, how am I going to take care of Reese, I'm never going to be able to workout and lose this baby weight"
My neighbor drove me home and Carl pushed Reese home in the stroller. I iced my foot and elevated it but it hurt like the devil. I couldn't move my toes and the top of my foot and ankle were already swelling. Carl called Brandy (greatest friend ever) and she said she would come by the next day to help out. That night, Carl had to do all the diaper changes and bring Reese to me to feed her. He was so tired the next day for work and I felt so bad for him.
The next morning, Brandy came over and was looking at my foot and said I should have it xrayed. I still couldn't move my toes very well and it was still swollen. So, we packed up sweet Reese and headed to the ER. Thankfully, they don't think it is broken. There is a chance there could be a small break that won't show up but I'm praying that isn't the case. They wrapped my foot and gave me some crutches and I'm supposed to stay off my foot for three days. Which means Carl is doing even more around the house. He is taking care of both dogs, me and Reese at night. He needs a vacation but won't get one for months.
We are both hoping this Sunday my foot will make a huge improvement and I'll be able to walk on it. I do think it was a sign from above that I need to slow down. I have been on the go and doing something almost every day since she was 2 weeks old. I am trying to workout, keep the house clean, still see friends and neighbors and do all of this with less sleep and taking care of a new baby. So, it's no surprise something happened but live and learn.
